Summary

Length km: 14km   Climb m: 509m     Duration hrs: 5hrs 15min

Description:

Laragh Free Car Park, Derrybawn, Cullentragh & Cullentragh East Top, Old Military Road, Jack of the Rags, Glendalough Orange Route, Laragh Free Car Park.

Starting from the Laragh Free Car Park, we join the Glendalough Orange Route and take further forest tracks to ascend steep open mountain to Derrybawn summit 476m.  Heading further south west on open mountain, we ascend Cullentragh summit 510m.  We then ascend Cullentragh East Top summit 467m.  Heading almost due south for 500m, we descend to the forest edge, when we turn left for a further circa 1km while hand railing the forest.  We then join the open cross country trail for 1km on the Old Military Road to Jack of the Rags exit.  Very tall gorse/furze bush and bracken/fern here – bare arms and legs not recommended.  Care also necessary as the heavy growth intermittently hides the uneven trail underfoot.  300m roadwalk on bend over Derrybawn river bridge.  Beautiful forest track for 1.5km including final 70m ascent to rejoin the Glendalough Orange Trail for final descent via Laragh Free car park.

Terrain & River Crossings:

Mixture of open mountain trails, forest track and one short road crossing.  No river crossings.

Gear Recommendations:
Raingear & sun screen!  Bare legs not recommended - see above walk description details.
