This walk will not be recced in advance. This is to replicate the situation when a leader and co-leader head out to recce a new route. It provides a 'real life' situation for those wanting to practice their navigational skills.
This walk is open to all members to join. Members who wish to practice their navigation skills will have the opportunity to do so, however if you just want to come along and enjoy the walk you are most welcome to do so.
There will be two tutors on the walk, Áine Allen and Alan Kane. The maximum number of walkers is 20. In order to practice our navigation we will split into groups.
Members who wish to complete a route card can do so and have it reviewed by one of the tutors. To complete a route card you will need the EastWest Wicklow West 1:25000 map.
Below is a Map of the route with the four stages highlighted and a Route Card template with the start and finish points of the four stages. The start and end point of each stage is indicated by an asterisk on the map.
Below also is a gpx file for the route, feel free to upload it into Outdoor Active or Hiiker and use it to navigate on the day.
